Iveta Benesova Biography
Currently ranked No. 59 in the world in singles, the Czech Republic’s Iveta Benesova has two career singles titles and nine career doubles titles on the WTA tour.
Benesova is currently ranked No. 21 in the world in doubles, and has finished in the Top 50 in singles three different times. She has been ranked as high as 25th in singles.
Her first Top 100 year was 2002, when she finished No. 81, highlighted by a second-round appearance as a qualifier at the French Open, and a first-round appearance as a qualifier at Wimbledon. She finished the season by reaching the finals at Bratislava, leaping 17 spots in the final year rankings.
Benesova fell back out of the Top 100 in 2003, losing 36 of her 56 matches. Her best efforts came at Hobart, where she reached the semifinals and Budapest, where she made the quarters.
She rebounded dramatically in 2004, leaping more than 100 places in the final WTA rankings to finish the year ranked 36th with a 48-29 record. Ranked 99th heading into Acapulco, she beat two Top 50 players to take the title, her first on tour, jumping 30 spots in the process. She proceeded to reach the finals at Estoril, the semifinals at Budapest and the finals at Forest Hills.
She slid back to 54th in 2005 then dropped six more spots to 60th at the end of 2006.
The following season, 2007, saw her back out of the Top 100, falling to 119th and playing only 40 matches on the year. It proved be another “yo-yo” campaign for Benesova, as she bounced back to finish 43rd in 2008 despite falling as low as 135th for a time.
She reached three straight ITF finals, winning one, to fight back within the Top 100, then made the third round at the French Open thanks to an upset of No. 16 Nicole Vaidisova.
For the first time in her career, she improved on a strong ranking in 2009, finishing 39th despite going just 29-27 on the year.
She reached the finals at Hobart and the semifinals of both Acapulco and Monterrey, as well as the quarterfinals at Miami and Tokyo.
She dropped back 20 places by the end of 2010, finishing the campaign with a 26-26 record. Benesova won her second career title by taking the title at Fes over Simona Halep. She later enjoyed a run to the third round at Montreal, shocking No. 3 Jelena Jankovic in straight sets in the second round.

Personal
Began playing tennis at age seven after her father showed her the game. She is coached by Jiri Fencl and her favorite shot is the backhand.
Iveta Benesova (born on February 1, 1983 in Most, Czechoslovakia) is a professional tennis player. She began playing tennis at age of 7 and turned professional in 1998 in Prague. She has won one WTA Tour event, Tier III in Acapulco in 2004.
